Section II
Origin of the Patrons of Husbandry 1867

"In its origin the Order of Patrons of Husbandry was a providential creation: a statement at once so startling, so unusual and so easily suggestive of actual irreverence, that it should not be made by anyone unless capable of complete verification by positive facts.

"Of the truth of its assertion there is not the slightest question, when one has closely examined the conditions out of which the Order had its inception, and the objects which it was not only created to accomplish, but has actually accomplished . . ."

-Grange Historian CHARLES M. GARDNER
